Daniel Sweeney (“Sweeney Glass“) is an Oregon based glass blower. While he has been melting glass for awhile, it wasn’t until the mid-90’s that he truly started to work with borosilicate. At art school, a friend invited him to come by his place and watch him blow glass. From then on he was hooked. Later Daniel and some friends formed a company called Heavy Glass. These days, Sweeney Glass produces high end glass at affordable rates that still enforce a level of quality. Right now the stringer tech remains as a main inspiration, which is drawing in glass with a millimeter or less of glass stringer. His view that “Glass has a fluidity to it and sometimes it’s just better to go with the flow,” shines through his art. Every new technique that Sweeny Glass learns is a challenge, but learning something new in something he loves is what makes it so rewarding. That rush of finally getting a new technique or design is pure excitement. As for tips to other glass blowers that are looking to get started or improve, Sweeney suggests sticking to one thing and getting it down before moving onto other types of designs.
